Part Two

...This is the second in a series of articles featuring BP’s ongoing progress with Gladson’s Image Merchandising Solutions Team…

Procter & Gamble conducted a study which revealed that planogram compliance and revenues deteriorate at the rate of 10% per week and the GMA and NACS studies revealed over 8% average stock-outs in the convenience industry. “We are looking to reduce out-of-stock products and increase planogram compliance,” said Nancy Knott, Merchandising Planning Manager at BP.

To tackle this tall task, BP enlisted the aid of Gladson’s Image Merchandising Solutions (IMS) Team.  Together, BP and Gladson analyzed thousands of BP planogram variations.  Gladson then adapted its IMS Data Cleaner and Print Compiler to the unique styles and methods used by BP category managers.  Gladson’s Marketing Team collaborated with BP to design effective Image Shelf Tags™, QuickSet® Image Shelf Strips and Peg-Image Back Tags that would serve the varied needs first envisioned by Nancy and her team.  The BP/Gladson team ran a series of pilots in over 40 stores.

The Image Shelf Strips are a representation of the planogram that tucks into the channel on the front of each shelf.  Each item, represented by a color product image, description, reorder barcode and price, is spaced precisely on the strip, allowing just the appropriate number of facings to be flawlessly placed on the shelf.  The Peg-Image Back Tags provide the same guidance for peg sections, the most difficult merchandising challenge.  Used at the start of a reset, the image strips and tags simplify the task of putting the right products with the right number of facings, in the right spot on the shelf or peg board.  Even the most inexperienced merchandisers can set like pros, the first time, every time.

The results of these pilots significantly exceeded expectations.

“The use of these Image Strips, Image Back Tags and Image Shelf Tags™ in the reset process cut reset time in half.  Total store sets that used to take 10-12 hours to accomplish now are completed in about 6 hours with the same number of people,” according to Nancy.  “In addition, the sets are executed exactly as designed by the BP category managers.”
