Speed to (Set) Shelf - Part 3 of 3
Complete Success
Over the weekend, as product arrived at the store, employees
began to load the shelves according to the reset strips. By early the following
week, the shelves were mostly full, and the sales and merchandising reps were
able to come in and make whatever minor adjustments were necessary. Once the
product fill had been completed, the strips were removed. Allowing another
seven to ten days or so to set up displays, signage and complete other in-store
work, each store was ready to open just about two and half weeks from the
completion of the planogram and product order.
“Using the QuickSet™ tools was a complete success,” De Both
said. “For the most part, we were able to use our own people, and our new employees
were able to stock as if they were seasoned professionals.” For some of the
store personnel, for whom English is a second language, the images removed the language barrier and the accuracy
of the set was nearly 100 percent. Not surprisingly, the response was equally
enthusiastic from the manufacturer reps since they could focus on optimizing
their products’ appearance rather than on loading the shelves.
Gladson Interactive (www.gladson.com)
offers a variety of image-based merchandising tools in addition to the QuickSet
strips, such as shelf tags, permanent shelf strips, shelf signs and produce
signs. “A crisp and clear product image on the shelf tag or strip is a big help
to shoppers and store personnel alike,” noted Gladson’s Gates. “The image
produce signs, which can include nutritional and other information, have been
particularly well received since they confirm the product’s identification for
those shoppers who may not know a carambola from a kiwi.”
De Both is now a firm believer in the benefits of the
QuickSet strips and is using them for regular category resets. He says they
used to rely on vendors and brokers, but the strips give store personnel and
easy and effective way to conduct resets themselves and get back to serving
customers sooner. He recently completed a reset of the vitamin section with
over 250 SKUs, adding that “the reset strips are ideal for categories that are
SKU-intensive, like vitamins.”
Strack & Van Til joins a list of other retailers
including CVS Caremark, Harris Teeter, HEB, Ace Hardware, BP and Circle K that
regularly use the Gladson QuickSet Image Strips and Back Tags.
