Gladson, the leading provider of syndicated consumer packaged goods (CPG) product images and nutritional information, announced today that it has become a member of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, a national, CEO-led coalition of over 180 retailers, food and beverage manufacturers, restaurants, sporting goods and insurance companies, professional sports organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), trade associations and the U.S. Army dedicated to leading Americans to reduce obesity – especially childhood obesity – by 2015.
The Foundation’s multi-year effort is focused on helping consumers lead active, healthy lifestyles by making energy balance a daily habit, encouraging access and opportunities for physical activity and healthier nutrition options and by raising awareness of the need for energy balance in the marketplace, in the workplace and in schools.
In May, 2010 the Foundation’s manufacturing members pledged to reduce annual calories by 1.5 trillion by the end of 2015, and sustain that level. Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation manufacturing companies are pursuing their calorie reduction goal by developing and introducing lower-calorie options, changing recipes where possible to lower the calorie content of current products, or reducing portion sizes of existing single-serve products. Current and historical product information in the
Gladson Nutrition Database is being used to help monitor and evaluate progress towards this goal.
“We look forward to becoming active members of the Foundation, supporting measurement of its success using our database and promoting the energy balance message within our company to help our employees and their families achieve and maintain a healthy weight,” said Susan B. Sentell, Gladson’s president and CEO.
“I am pleased to have Gladson join our membership ranks,” said Lisa Gable, president of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, “and look forward to their many contributions in supporting our efforts.”
